The collection consists of bulletins, correspondence, dinner journals and other printed material relating to Congregation Beth Hillel & Beth Israel. One binder of High Holiday sheet music of the Beth Israel choir is also included. Additionally, it contains form letters, poster boards, and newsletters from the Washington Heights-Inwood Council for Soviet Jewry, in which the congregation's rabbi and various members were involved. The collection does not include the synagogue's administrative records, such as minutes and financial accounts.

Beth Hillel, founded in 1939, had been a Conservative congregation which had been moving steadily towards tradition over the years.
